Meherpur is very familiar to all because Freedom established centre & first temporary capital of Mujibnagar. It is situated on the bank of Bhoirab river & carry historical witness. In the period of sixteenth century there was a saint Meher Ali Shah who founded the Meherpur district as a man said. And thus Meherpur has been named by his name.

Actually there is no evidence & historically base for sourcing name of this district. Once Bagerhat was filled with gardens. So this is Bagerhat. Besides this there have a man speech that Sundhorban is very close to and sometimes tigers were come and make tortured the people. Bagerhat was name that time. So bagerhat name has been come from that.
